Jack E. Sargent, 76, of Loyalsock Twp., died on Sept. 30, 2018 at UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport Regional Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 25, 1942, in Williamsport, a son of the late Jack W. and Shirley E. (Edwards) Sargent.
Jack was a graduate of Williamsport High School, where he excelled in football, basketball, and baseball, earning a football scholarship from the University of Buffalo. He attended school there until being drafted by the Boston Red Sox Baseball Franchise, where he played for a few years. Afterwards he worked for Richel Furniture, before moving on to Westinghouse, and finally retiring from International Paper, where he won numerous sales awards.
He enjoyed spending time at the cabin, he and his family built, as well as his camper on the river lot, with all his family and friends. He was an avid golfer, winning many local tournaments, including the W.C.C. Invitational Tournament with his brother, James. He was also a past club champion at the Williamsport Country Club.
Jack loved his Harley Davidson trike, Polaris snowmobiles, and long convertible rides with his wife. He was a longtime member of the Williamsport Country Club, Clinton Country Club, Harmonia Club, and the Young Men’s Republican Club.
He loved all of his dogs as if they were his children.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela A. Spahr, and a sister, Jill G. Stannert.
Surviving are his loving wife of 59 years, the former Nancy P. Pfirman; a daughter, Melissa (Brian) Soule of Newark, DE; a brother, James W. Sargent; a granddaughter, Mackenzie Soule; nieces and nephews, Robbie (Karen) Stannert, Jackie (Jill) Stannert, Shelly (John) Barr, Jessica (Zach) Chasen, and Jamie (Kristen) Sargent, and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery.
