A much loved mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend, Joan Bower Kennedy, 68, of Montoursville, passed away peacefully March 7, 2019, at Geisinger Medical Center, surrounded by her family.
She was born Sept. 23, 1950, in Williamsport, the daughter of the late Joseph and Dorothy (Saar) Bower.
Joan graduated from Loyalsock High School and went on to earn multiple accolades and awards in banking and finance. While attending Loyalsock High School, she participated in color guard and played sports. For several years, she was well known as a Mortgage Professional in Lycoming County and surrounding areas, and most recently was a realtor with Berkshire Hathaway Hodrick Realty. Her greatest joy in life was her children and grandchildren whom she devoted her whole life to their happiness.
Joan coached youth soccer for both her children and grandchildren. She was a member of PTO and was always volunteering for any activity that involved her children and grandchildren. She also served many years as a PIAA Swim Official. She was also a devoted member to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, volunteering at any opportunity.
Preceding her in death were her parents; brother, Robert Bower; and in-laws, Elton and Jean Kennedy.
Surviving is her ex-husband, Ron Kennedy; a son, Brian (Desiree) Kennedy and children, Grant, Jack, and Charlie; a daughter, Kim (Ken) Tallman and children, Hunter, Connor, and Kendall; siblings, James (Cindy) Bower, of Williamsport, Richard (Charmain) Bower, of Kingston, and Joseph (Judy) Bower, of Pottsville; nephew, James Jr. (Kristie) Bower, of Decorah, IA, whom she shared a very special relationship with and other nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews who were very important to her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Mar. 13, at Our Lady of Lourdes, 100 Walnut Street, Montoursville, with Rev. Michael S. McCormick as celebrant. Burial will follow in Montoursville Cemetery.
A visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Mar. 12, at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad Street, Montoursville.
