Kenneth W. Raker, 87, of Loyalsock Twp. died peacefully Dec. 14, 2018, at Rose View Center.
He was born Feb. 5, 1931, in Coal Township, a son of the late Walter and Helen (Brunson) Raker.
Ken retired from Weis Markets, and was a Korean War veteran having served in the U.S. Army Air Force. He was a member of Eugene Grafius American Legion Post 104, Sons of Italy, and attended Faxon Kenmar United Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing cards, cutting grass in Rose Valley, collecting model trucks, but most important overall was helping other people more than himself.
In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were a brother, Edward Raker; three sisters, Marian Venema, Betty Sarama, and Catherine Frey; and a grandson, Sean Michael Raker.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years the former, Kathleen A. Alt; a son, Michael K. (Janet) Raker, of Rose Valley; two daughters, Pamela K. Raker, of Williamsport, and Tina M. (Dennis) Mertes, of Cogan Station; seven grandchildren, Joe (Julie) Brenner, Lisa (Bill) Spencer, Michael Raker, Robert Berninger, Monica Berninger, Dennis (Allison) Mertes, and Jared Mertes, and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad Street, Montoursville, with C.L.M. Elle Benna officiating. Burial will follow in Montoursville Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by Lycoming County Korean War Veterans Honor Guard.
A viewing for family and friends will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18 and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, both at the funeral home.
