Mary Emily Eck, formerly of Colonial Court, Montoursville, passed away at Elmcroft Senior Living Community on May 11, 2019, at the age of 90. She was born January 30, 1929, in Newberry, the daughter of the late James C. and Thelma J. Rosencrans, and sister of the late William J. Rosencrans.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, William C. Weis (deceased 1965), Allan J. Woodward (deceased 1987), and Clarence L. Eck (deceased 2009). She is survived by her children, Susan (Gerald) Kimble of Montoursville, James (Amy) Weis of Zionsville, and Nicholas (Jane) Weis of Saratoga, CA; stepchildren, Susan Weinstein, Judith Miller, John Woodward, Stephen Woodward, John Eck, Deborah Steppe, Patricia Morone, and Louann Hiller Fortin. She was predeceased by her stepson, Richard Eck. She is survived as well by 39 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Mary Emily graduated from Williamsport High School (Class of 1947) and the Garfield Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Washington, DC, in 1950. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, the Woman's Club of Williamsport, and the Eastern Lycoming YMCA Silver Sneakers program. She volunteered for the American Red Cross and was a world traveler, a lifelong bridge player, and an avid reader. Mary Emily was known for her vivacious personality, great sense of humor, and style, but what she loved more than anything was spending time with her expanding family and friends.
She loved and cherished being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a faithful and uplifting mother to her children, a spirited and enthusiastic grandmother to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a friend to all who knew her.
The family sends their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Elmcroft for their daily support and encouragement, to the Susquehanna Home Care and Hospice Services for their assistance, and to Dr. John Pellegrino for his warm attention and professional care.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 100 Walnut Street, Montoursville, at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, with Rev. Michael S. McCormick as celebrant. Friends and family may call at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad Street, Montoursville on Tuesday, May 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
