William G. “Digger” O’Dell, 86, of Williamsport, died Feb. 22, 2019, at Manor Care Health Services South.
He was born Nov. 2, 1932, in Montgomery, the son of the late Lester C. and Letha (Flick) O’Dell.
Digger was a graduate of Montgomery-Clinton High School and then signed with the Detroit Tigers to play baseball. He entered the military and served during the Korean War in the army. He was a member of the Lycoming County Korean War Veterans. He retired from Penn DoT. Additionally, he played fast and slow pitch softball and umpired both and was later inducted into the Lycoming County West Branch Hall of Fame.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Michael; brothers, Donald and Kenneth; and sisters, Gladys Weary and Mildred Roser.
Surviving is his wife of 63 years, the former Margaret Haupt; two sons, Christopher O’Dell, of Lebanon and Robert G. O’Dell, of Williamsport; and nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad Street, Montoursville, with Rev. Susan G. Halverstadt officiating. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park where military rites will be accorded by Lycoming County Korean War Veterans Honor Guard.
A viewing for family and friends will be from 1 to 2 p.m., at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
