Curt R. Rakestraw II

September 17, 1952 ~ August 7, 2020 (age 67)


Curtin R. Rakesraw II, 67, passed away Friday morning, August 7th, 2020 at the Gatehouse, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Williamsport, on September 17, 1952, he was the son of the late Curtin and Verna (Stryker) Rakestraw.

Curt graduated from Montoursville High School in 1970, where he excelled as a varsity basketball player. Curt attended Lycoming College where he discovered his life passion of farming. Curt owned and operated a family owned farm, with his wife Mary, until his death. Curt was an active member of his community, serving on several local and national boards throughout his lifetime including: Montoursville School Board, National Corn Growers Association, Allegheny Electric Cooperative, Cooperative Finance Corporation, and Sullivan Country Rural Electric Company. Curt loved to travel to board meetings, and often regaled friends and family with stories of famous politicians and entertainers he met along his travels. In 2018, Curt received the Penn Rural Electric Association Miracle Mile Eminent Service Award from the Sullivan County REC for outstanding service and contribution surrounded by friends and family in State College, PA.

Curt was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His grandchildren were the pride of his life, and he never missed an opportunity to cheer them on at a sporting event. Curt and Mary were foster parents and their home was a second home to many of the neighborhood children who were welcomed as family.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary (Dincher) Rakestraw; sons, Jamie (Kathy) Rakestraw of Muncy, David (Kim) Rakestraw, Richard (Lynn) Rakestraw, Michael (Heather) Rakestraw, and Tim (Kelly) Dehart, all of Montoursville; and grandchildren, Chase, Abby, Julia, Logan, Kasey, Emily, Noah, Matthew, Austin, Alice, and Clark.

Please join the family for a celebration of Curt’s life on August 16th at 1:00 p.m. at 3116 Reeder Road, Montoursville, PA 17754. Food and refreshments will be provided; casual attire.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Susquehanna Health Foundation c/o The Gatehouse, 1001 Grampian Blvd, Williamsport, PA 17701.
