Earl L. Mowrey

March 10, 1936 ~ December 17, 2021 (age 85)

Obituary

Earl L. Mowrey, Sr. of Montoursville, passed away from this life on December 17, 2021.

He was born on March 10, 1936 in Williamsport, son of the late Lewis and Mary (Sentman) Mowrey.

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by his brother, Lewis Mowrey; sister, Ellen Reed; step-brother, James Dougherty; and son-in-law, Charles Jordan.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Dolores “Toot” (Miller) Mowrey; four children, Earl L. (Valarie) Mowrey, Jr., Bruce E. (Pamela) Mowrey, David A. (Donna) Mowrey, and Patricia M. Jordan; ten grandchildren, Nathan Mowrey, Carissa Burgett, Corey Mowrey, Kevin Mowrey, Kyle Mowrey, Theresa Shaffer, David Mowrey, Samantha Mowrey, Ryan Mowrey, Michael Engel and their families that include sixteen great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Wilton; brother-in-law, Charles (Louise) Miller; and many nieces and nephews.

At the age of 16 Earl embarked on his career of construction which continued uninterrupted for the next 70 years. He was proud to add his son and grandson as subsequent owners of Mowrey Contractors, LLC. Nothing was more important to Earl than being available to provide whatever help was needed by any family member at any time.

Earl was never intimidated by a challenge whether it be constructing a home or building his beloved (Blue Lady) race cars. His handshake was as good as a contract; he had an incredible ability to judge a person’s character, and rarely suffered fools. He and Dolores have been long time members of the Farragut United Methodist Church, where he had been a trustee and was very proud of the thirteen Eagle Scouts that he had mentored while being Scout Master of their Troop 84. His passion for hunting and fishing led to the purchase of the farm property in Tioga County, PA, which after extensive remodeling became the family cabin for many years. Earl and Dolores spent many winters in Central Florida and to keep busy he would help friends remodel their homes. Recently the West Branch Susquehanna Builders Association recognized Earl and Mowrey Contractors, LLC for its 70 years of continuous service and its 40 years of membership.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

A celebration of Earl’s life will be announced at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Farragut United Methodist Church, 61 PA-864, Montoursville, PA 17754.
