Obituary

Elizabeth Mary Anstadt, 97 of Mill Creek Township, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, December 12, 2021 at Embassy of Loyalsock.

Elizabeth was born in Williamsport, raised by her aunt and uncle, Ilo and Albert Bender in Akron, Ohio, until age 11, when she returned to Williamsport to her mother and five sisters.  She married Jean L. Anstadt and celebrated 60 years of marriage until Jean’s death in 2003. Elizabeth retired as Mill Creek Township tax collector. Previously she was employed at J.C. Penney’s and Schnadig Corporation as an accountant. She worked on the farm with her husband her entire married life. She was a member of Church of the Reservation in Muncy, until age 83 when she became a member of Huntersville Baptist Church.

Elizabeth showed by her example the importance of education, service to others and civic involvement. She was active in many organizations over her life including Allegheny and Eagle Granges, PA State Grange and National Grange, life membership for over 70 years. Elizabeth and Jean delivered for Meals on Wheels for many years. She was active in Red Hats, Huntersville Senior Club, and others. She was a board member of Lycoming County Penn State Extension. Early in life she received training thru PSU Extension and taught homemakers’ classes in Huntersville. She also received her 50-year voting certificate from county commissioners.

Surviving are her daughters, Elizabeth Anstadt (Bernard) Downey of Muncy, Jeanne Anstadt of Montoursville; and son, Lewis (Marilyn) Anstadt of Muncy. She left behind six grandchildren and three step-grandsons, nine great grandchildren and 13 step great grandchildren along with 15 step great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is survived by one sister-in-law, Inge Anstadt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Elizabeth (Bender) Betty; and her sisters, Catherine Steinbacher, Rita Nau, Mary Kimmel and Lorraine Warner.

On Monday, December 20, 2021, a visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. with funeral service to follow at Lycoming Valley Baptist Church, Montoursville with Pastors Tim Snyder and Robert McKenzie officiating. Flowers will be provided by the family.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Allegheny and Eagle Granges or Lycoming Valley Baptist Church, 4980 Lycoming Mall Drive, Montoursville.

CDC guidelines for Covid will be in effect.

 Arrangements are entrusted to Spitler Funeral Home of Montoursville.
