Gertie Wilhelmina Schreffler, 92, of Fernandina Beach, FL, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, June 13, 2021, in Fernandina Beach.
Gertie was born in 1928 to George and Gertie Raker in Northumberland County, PA. Due to the untimely passing of her mother during childbirth, she was nurtured through infancy by her aunts. She was raised by her adoptive parents, Willard, Jennie (until her death), and Lizzie Snyder since age three.
Gertie loved the Lord and cherished her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends over the years. She was an avid gardener growing amazing flowers, and vegetables to feed her large family. She retired from working 21 ½ years as an EKG Technician at Divine Providence Hospital, now known as UPMC in Williamsport, PA. Gertie later moved to Florida to enjoy retirement, but with energy to spare and a love for people, she became employed by Publix Supermarkets for over 15 years as a cashier affectionately known as “Miss Gertie”. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and attended Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
Gertie is predeceased by her parents; brothers, Rolandis, Harvey, and Earl Raker; former husband, love of her life and father of her children, Mark Schreffler; and infant son, Steven Schreffler.
She is survived by her children, Jay Schreffler (Resa) of New Mexico, Sue Cobain (Stew) of Colorado, Dale Schreffler (Di) of New Mexico, Linda Meckley (Brett) of Pennsylvania, Patsy Llarena (Alex) of Fernandina Beach, 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and her companion cat, Midnite.
Grandma Gertie with her infectious smile, spunk and determination will be missed by much family and many friends.
