Jane Sweeley, 63, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior surrounded by the laughter and tears of her family, Monday, May 16, 2022. In her final days she was more concerned with those she would leave behind than the cancer that claimed her life.
Born on February 3, 1959, to the late Kenneth and Eloise (Sick) Squier, Jane grew up a self-proclaimed country girl in Sugar Run, PA on her parents’ dairy farm. After getting her farm chores done Jane loved riding her horse and getting into all sorts of shenanigans with her sister. At Wyalusing Valley Jr and Sr high, she became the editor of the yearbook, performed on the color guard, and played basketball. She was crowned the Pennsylvania Dairy Princess of Bradford County in 1977.
Her beauty was far more than skin deep. Anyone who knew her can attest to her gentleness and compassion. She studied psychology at Tennessee Temple. After hearing from his sister, Stephen Sweeley traveled over 700 miles to meet Jane. He was instantly smitten and immediately enrolled at the college.
Stephen and Jane Sweeley were married November 7, 1981. They raised three sons, started a successful business, and served the Lord faithfully together. Over the years they made Jane’s Grandparents’ farm into their own private retreat.
There was no one Jane loved more than Steve, but there was also no one else who could irritate her like him. She faithfully followed his lead for over 40 years. Early in their marriage Steve vowed never to own a television. Later he bought one. Outraged, Jane took scissors and cut the power cord. Laughter now follows as stories like these are shared, and there was always a twinkle in her eye at the retelling of their many adventures.
Jane loved children; she dedicated her time to children’s ministries at church and her family. She was a devoted wife and mother, but there was no other title she held so dearly as “Nana.” She cherished each child for who they uniquely are. They have been her greatest joy and delight.
She is survived by her husband and their three sons Micah (Amanda) Sweeley, Lance (Sarah) Sweeley, and Jared (Gloria) Sweeley. 11 beautiful grandchildren Sofia, Madelyn, Miles, Judah, Maximus, Abigail, Lillian, Shiloh, Lydia, Griffin, and Oliver. Her brother Ron Squier and sister Pat (Scott) Spencer.
