Philip Clyde Bower, 91, of Muncy died on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at Valley View Rehab and Nursing Center.
He was born on April 30, 1930, in Williamsport, son of the late Clyde Elwood Bower and Velma Ora Williams Bower-Becker.
Philip was a United States Army Veteran and a member of 101st Airborne. He graduated from Williamsport High School, received a Bachelor’s degree in business from Lycoming College, a Master’s of education degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and completed additional graduate studies at Pennsylvania State University. He later retired from Pennsylvania State University, division of continuing education after 29 years of service. Philip was also a lifelong member of the Babylon Hunting Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, the former Shirley Platt who passed away in 2000.
Surviving is his second wife, Erma Miller Houseknecht Bower; three daughters, Faith (William, Sr.) Panter, of Richmond, TX., Linda (Richard) Kneedler, of Montgomery, and Karen (James) Scott, of Danville; step-daughter, Caroline (Rick Szulanczyk) Houseknecht, of Narvon; three grandchildren, Michael Shallis, Adriane (Rikki) Youngblood, and Jessica (Harry) Lehman; three step-granddaughters, Jennifer Peck, Kaitlin Kneedler-Gordner, and Donna Panter; three step-grandsons, Tristen Scott, Tenneson Scott and William Panter, Jr.; two-great-granddaughters, Asha Youngblood and Vivian Lehman; great-grandson, Rohan Youngblood; three step-great-granddaughters, Avery Peck, Gabrielle Panter, and Haylie Panter; and three step-great-grandsons, Nicholas Villarreal, Walker Peck, and Deklan Gordner.
He was a man true to his word, honest and loving.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 10, 2021, 11:00 a.m., at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, PA 17754 with Chaplain Thomas M. Brokaw officiating.
Burial will follow in Montoursville Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Lycoming County Korean War Veterans Honor Guard.
Friends and family are invited to call on Thursday, 10-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
