Richard Frederick "Fred" Shultz

November 17, 1941 ~ April 28, 2022 (age 80)


Richard Frederick “Fred” Shultz, 80, of Montoursville, passed away on April 28, 2022, at Valley View.

He was born November 17, 1941, son of Harold K. and Clarabel (Sauter) Shultz.

Fred was a graduate of Montoursville High School in 1959. He served in the Army for 6 years and served most of that time in Korea after the war and in the White House. He was the owner and operator of Shultz Memorials in Montoursville since 1980, previously owned by his father and started by his grandfather, M.L. in 1929, continued today by his son. Fred was a longtime member of the Montoursville Lions Club, served for many years as President on the Fall Festival Committee, and was a member of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church. He enjoyed shooting, reloading, flying planes, air shows, reading, spending time with family and friends, and always had time to talk. He will be missed as an avid storyteller, of many tall tales.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, David.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, the former Margaret “Peggy” June (Blitz) Shultz; children, Steve Bagwell, Emma Jane (Joseph) Mellish, Jody (Patrick) Mooney, William A. (Loreen) Bagwell, and Richard Kenneth (Samantha) Shultz; grandchildren, Jimmy (Chelsea) Eck, Chelsie (Erik) Houser, Samantha (Brady) Walter, Sara Fisher, Justin Mellish, Kayla (Kenny) Fern, Sierra Mellish, William M. Bagwell, Savannah Mellish, Emily Lucas, Emma Mooney, Catrina Bagwell, and Braeden Mooney; and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral and burial will be at the convenience of the family in Montoursville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, 369 Broad Street, Montoursville, PA 17754.
