Shirley L. Lambert, 98, died peacefully on Monday, April 5, 2021, at the home of her loving daughter and son-in-law.
She was born on November 28, 1922 in Williamsport, daughter of the late Harry B. and Aletha C. Thompson.
Shirley graduated from the Williamsport Area High School in 1940 and later attended and graduated from Williamsport Dickinson Seminary. She took great pride in her thirty-year career as a legal secretary for J. Neafie Mitchell.
She married Bernard C. Lambert on May 9, 1944 in Williamsport and together they raised their daughter, Debbie. “Pooch” and “Spike” can now celebrate their 77th wedding anniversary together eternally.
Shirley’s life embodied elegance and grace. She attended and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Williamsport, she loved the color purple, flowers, knitting, baking and you could always find her with a book in hand. She had many, many friends to whom she shared life with through the years. Her love of baking was shared with all as she generously gifted her famous canned peaches and freshly baked banana bread. Shirley also kept the Hallmark company and the post office in business as she loved to send cards to friends near and far for every occasion.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, “Spike” on May 6, 2005.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Greg Johnson, of Williamsport; three grandchildren, Brett (Sue) Johnson, of Williamsport, Chad (Devon) Johnson, of Mechanicsburg, and Heather (Weldon), of Williamsport; and six great-grandchildren, Jett, Parker, Miley, Aletha, Caden, and Brynn. They affectionately called her their “Great”, there is no better word to describe how she loved them and most of all her family.
The family wishes to extend extra gratitude to Beth, of Susquehanna Home Care and Hospice, Pastor Rick Waters and Dr. Matthew Meeker for their exceptional care.
