Shirley J. Miller

April 20, 1936 ~ January 12, 2021 (age 84)

Shirley J. Miller 84, of Fairfield Township, faithfully passed into the waiting arms of her loving Savior January 12th, 2021 at the UPMC Medical Center.

She was born on April 20th, 1936 in Blairsville, the daughter of John C. and Martha B. (Clawson) Dixon. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Gerald L. Miller in 2015. Together they owned and operated the family business, Dixon AC & R Corp., from 1976-1996.

Shirley and her family settled in this area when she was a young girl and continued her schooling here graduating from South Williamsport Area High School in the class of 1954. She was a loyal and faithful friend to so many from her class through the years and loved organizing or attending class reunions, picnics and breakfasts with her lifelong classmates. She remained the treasurer of the class until her passing.

It was after graduation that Shirley and Jerry began the adventure for life that would see them cross paths with so many beautiful places and wonderful people. They shared so many incredible experiences together. They laughed and traveled with cherished friends to places far and wide. They particularly loved any warm island and the amazing memories they created attending Penn State football games both at Beaver Stadium and across the country. It seemed the engine of their motorhome never shut off!

Shirley was a volunteer through and through. There was never an organization that her children participated in that she wasn’t there to lend a hand. She loved sharing those memories with her children then with her grandchildren. Many of their friends remember her growing up as a second mom as fun pool parties, amazing adventures and great meals shared by all were the norm. She welcomed everyone.

She cherished the family memories that were created at each holiday and was always excited for the annual family trip to Disney World, a tradition that is still carried on today by her children, grandchildren and now great grandchildren.

In her kind way with typical courage, one of the last things she was able to say to her family was “I don’t want anyone to be sad.” Well, how can you not be? But the thought of her being with our Dad and Grandfather again and relishing the glory of heaven eases that sadness. She was a selfless and caring woman and her rest is heaven sent and well earned. She was a faithful and lifelong member of Messiah Lutheran Church in South Williamsport.

Surviving is a son G. Lee (Angela) Miller of Montoursville; daughter Kelly A. (Michael) King of Hatfield; and a brother Ronald (Tuy) Dixon of Satellite Beach Fla. She was preceded in death by her sister Joyce (Jim) Wolyniec. Surviving also are four beloved grandchildren Ryan L (Alicia) Miller of Williamsport, Matthew L (Emily) Miller of Williamsport, Amanda (Joe) Carvill of Bristol England and Andrew King of Hatfield Pa.  and cherished great grandchildren Alexis, Brynli, Trey, Cael and Sienna. She had many nieces and nephews she treated as if they were her own children.
