William W. Bair, 92, of Montoursville, died January 25, 2020, at his residence.
He was born May 20, 1927, in Williamsport, a son of the late Cleon M. and Margaret (Jarrett) Bair.
William played in the first organized Little League baseball game in 1939 and was the first batting champion, and volunteered at the Original Little League Museum. He was a graduate of Penn State University, where he was also a member of the Alumni Association, Varsity S Club, and an avid fan. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in both WWII and the Korean War. He worked at the former Bethlehem Steel and retired from Williamsport Wire Rope. He was an Eagle Scout, and a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Red Run Rod and Gun Club, The Wheel Inn, and Lycoming Creek Anglers Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Shirley A. Peacock.
Surviving him are two sons, Keith D. (Kate) Bair, of Hughesville, and Craig W. (Melinda) Bair, of Glouster Township, NJ; a daughter, Sue E. (Robert) Kratochwill, of Syracuse, NY; a sister, Lois Stryker, of Williamsport; six grandchildren, Nathaniel, Patrick, and Taylor Bair, Alicia and Pamela Kratochwill, and Lara Horvath; and a great-grandson, Kage.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 29, at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad Street, Montoursville, with Rev. David B. Letscher officiating. Burial will follow in Twin Hills Memorial Park, where military honors will be accorded by the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County Honor Guard. Family and friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.
